A preview of Track 9 of For Now an unfolding album. 

The final track of Part II is dedicated to Action for Children. Previously known as the National Children’s Home, this charity ran the orphanage in Whitby, Yorkshire, that took in my grandad, Lawrence Kidd, in the 1920s.

For Love, Labour, Loss weaves some of my memories of Lawrence together - a mixture of nostalgia, joy and sadness on his passing. The song features two amazing instrumentalists:  Laetitia Stott as melodious French Horn and Stephanie Oatridge as lyrical Oboe.

For Getting it Right is a blues to overthinking - how heavy thoughts can fill our heads and weigh us down if we’re not careful. With a little more time, space and trust, perhaps we can let go and become truly present.

The track features saxophonist Ellie Steemson, who helped me create an orchestra of singing, moaning, chirping saxophones.

For Pressing On is a song about perpetual motion, the inner breeze that passionately steers us towards our goals, come what may. The soaring melody is performed by star ‘cellist Gregor Riddell, spurred on by chirping flutes and deep drums.

For Facing Up is a song about finding strength, striding boldly against the obstacles that have hindered us for too long. The fiery melody is performed by my wife Sarah, a violin amidst a world of heavy drums, chimes and rumbles.

For Mending - feat. ‘cellist Gregor Riddell - is dedicated to the charity Get Connected, the free helpline for young people who know they need help but don’t know where to find it. 

For Mending is a song about difficult times and their aftermath, how pain does not always leave us even when the crisis is over. With the right support from the right person at the right time, however, we can begin to heal ourselves.  

Having visited their London headquarters and seen first hand the fantastic service they provide to young people in times of need, all proceeds from this song will be donated to Get Connected. Find out more about their work at www.getconnected.org.uk/home
